Welcome to the second bi-monthly edition of the Fitness Nugget, featuring additional delicious nuggets of healthy secrets! Last week was so well received I've decided to continue our fitness journey through the calorie burning barriers of our lives. So...please enjoy.
1. Full Body Movements: When working out try to involve the entire body with each exercise (eg: add a squat to a shoulder press); this will ensure functional strength with heavier breathing. Heavier breathing = greater O2 consumption = increased fat burning...essentially.
2. Balance Exercises: Balancing on one leg while exercising will tap into the deeper slow twitch stabilizers, core included (eg. single leg shoulder press). The more muscles working during one exercise the more calories called to action.
3. Eat More Fruits And Vegetables: Water based foods increase digestion and metabolism. As well; fruits and vegetables are very high in vitamins and minerals that they further fine tune your body as a machine in the way that it uses calories instead of storing them.
4. Decrease Daily Stress: Stress invites the body to add fat around the stomach and organs as a survival instinct. Exercise decreases stress. (Kravitz)
5. Daily Moving Tips:
Stand up and walk around the office every 30 min (set an alarm)
Take a walk break on every coffee break
Walk around the room when talking on the phone
Get up and move around every commercial
Walk/bike to work
Find the furthest parking space in the grocery store parking lot
It all adds up at the end of the day
